How Much Is a Private Chef for a Night in PA? Find Out Here

Picture this: your dining room transformed into a cozy, candle-lit restaurant. No traffic. No lines. No shouting over the table next to you. Just you, your guests, and an unforgettable meal, crafted and served right in your own home.

Lately, more people are skipping the restaurant reservations and asking a better question—how much is a private chef for a night? It’s not just about indulgence. It’s about comfort, quality, and a deeper connection to your food and your guests.

Hiring a private chef brings the best parts of fine dining into your own space. But what’s the actual cost? What should you expect to pay, and what’s included? Whether you’re celebrating something special or just craving something extraordinary on a Tuesday night, this guide will give you real answers—without the guesswork.

What Affects the Cost of a Private Chef Dinner?

When calculating the cost of a private chef dinner, think of it less like a restaurant tab and more like event planning. You’re not just buying dinner—you’re creating an immersive experience that includes shopping, prepping, cooking, serving, and cleaning.

Here’s what shapes the final price tag:

  • Guest Count: Private chefs often charge per person. But some also have minimums regardless of how many guests attend.
  • Menu Selection: A steak and lobster dinner will cost more than a seasonal vegetable-focused tasting menu.
  • Service Style: Is it plated or family-style? Do you want wine pairings? Table service?
  • Date and Day: Weekends are peak times and usually come with a higher minimum.
  • Location: Travel time, kitchen access, and event setup may factor into the pricing.

It’s easy to see how the question—how much is a private chef for a night—doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. But here’s what you can expect if you’re working with Servis Events.

Understanding the Private Dining at Home Cost Structure

Private dining at home cost often surprises people, but for good reason—it includes everything. Unlike dining out, where the check reflects only what’s served, private chefs handle the grocery shopping, prepping, menu design, cooking, table service, and cleanup. That’s full service, start to finish.

At Servis Events, we offer two pricing options:

  • Standard Menu: $200 per person plus 6% of the total bill.
  • Steak & Lobster Upgrade: $250 per person plus 6% of the total bill.

Let’s say you’re hosting six people for a standard menu. Your base cost would be $1,200, plus 6%, bringing the total to around $1,272. That includes everything—from local farm-sourced ingredients to beautifully plated dishes made by our twin chefs in your kitchen.

Now compare that to a high-end restaurant where you’d likely spend the same amount—only without privacy, personalization, or the joy of hosting at home.

How Much Is a Private Chef for a Night?

On average, a private chef for a night is $200.

At Servis Events, here’s how our pricing structure works:

  • Weekday Minimum (Mon–Fri): $600 minimum to book.
  • Weekend Minimum (Sat–Sun): $1,000 minimum to book.

If your guest count doesn’t meet that threshold, we’ll still host your event—we just charge the minimum rate. That means even if it’s a romantic dinner for two on a Saturday, your bill would be $1,000, but every detail will be exceptional.

Want the steak and lobster? For two guests on the weekend, your total would come to $530 before tax. But since the weekend minimum is $1,000, you’d still pay that flat minimum.

These minimums help support small businesses like ours by ensuring we can deliver the quality you expect, without compromise.

Common Questions About Private Chef Costs

Do I need to tip?
Tipping is appreciated, though not required. If you’re thrilled with your experience, a 10–20% tip is a generous way to show it.

Can I customize the menu?
We offer a set seasonal menu, crafted to highlight what’s fresh and locally available. While the menu is fixed, we do accommodate dietary restrictions with care and creativity.

How far in advance should I book?
For weekends, at least a month in advance is wise. For weekday bookings, 2–3 weeks is usually enough. Short notice? Contact us anyway—we’ll do our best to fit you in.

What’s included in the price?
Everything except the table and chairs: shopping, prep, cooking, serving, and cleanup are all included.

Private Chef vs. Restaurant: Is It Worth It?

If your idea of a perfect evening includes parking, waiting for a table, shouting over ambient noise, and leaving a tip for rushed service—then the restaurant is fine.

But if you want music you control, your favorite wine in your own glass, no rush between courses, and no babysitter clock ticking—then private dining wins, hands down.

When people ask how much is a private chef for a night, they’re often surprised to learn the cost of a private chef dinner is competitive with dining at high-end restaurants. The difference? At home, you’re the only table.
